WEED
SCIENCE SOCIETY
OF
NORTH CAROLINA
Dr. Dunk Porterfield
Greetings fellow weed scientists. Another season in
coming to a close despite the challenges that were faced along the way. I don’t
know about you, but this was the driest year that I have faced in my
agricultural career. Hopefully 2002 will hold that record and the years to come
will not be so challenging. Mark your
calendar for the WSSNC annual meeting to be held on March 6, 2003. The meeting will be held at the North
Carolina State University Club, located on Hillsboro Street just off the 440
Beltline. This is the same location where the meeting was held last year.
Registration will begin at 8:30 am with the program starting at 9:00 am. The Program Committee is putting the
finishing touches on the program. The 2003 program will focus on the turf
industry and related issues. We have some excellent speakers and I think you
will find the program to be most informative.
May you and your families have a safe and happy holiday! Looking forward
to seeing you in the New Year.

A document was drafted to outlining requirements for the
WSSNC student scholarship. This outline
will be sent to the College of Ag and Life Science. The WSSNC board would like to have more input on deciding on who
gets the scholarship and have the winners attend the meeting.
The WSSNC has decided to remain a single society and not do
a joint meeting with NCVMA. A board
member will follow up with their board.
The following WSSNC members were nominated for the
following committee assignments:
Mike Burton was appointed to be the WSSNC liaison to the NC
